Response to Pierre Huyghe

From a previous standpoint of mine, after watching this video, I would say that all of these works must have come from separate artists. Throughout my art career, my impression of artists that are successful is that they always have a style that can be easily identified. Now, I feel as if Pierre truly represents the new generation of artists in that he is not confined and he wants to take advantage of a wide range of exposures. I identify with this because I have never felt as if I have had a very distinct style, and I do a little bit of everything. I feel as if every day I am introduced to a new software or a new mode of expression, and with today's world, I don't think that anyone needs to be confined.

I love that he says that the journey does not end with the exhibition. The show is not what ends the artist's path, it is actually the beginning. The concept that the reaction and the reply to the art is the continuation of the actual making of the piece is really powerful, and I think that this take is more in line with art in general. Art is meant to be absorbed and interpreted by an audience, the continuation of this journey further emphasizes the impact that the work of the artist is meant to accomplish.

The way Pierre "creates a world" is mesmerizing, and in my opinion very effective. His tactic of creating a show in Central Park to showcase a work, very much appeals to today's culture and getting the audience involved. Immersive experiences are what people today crave and they have the ability to grab an audience's attention. Creating a space with moving doors to represent how the threshold is never still and to have people question whether they are in or out of something in our culture is very powerful. I think Pierre's approach is very unique, while still varied, and his immersive style really appeals to a modern art consumer.
