Favorite Broadway Productions

Hairspray-

I have never seen a live performance of Hairspray, however, I love the film. The themes of this production are the main reason for that, but I love the colors and overall tone. The characters break social norms and push the limits of their society, and I love how humor is incorporated into all of it. The majority of the songs are upbeat and fun to watch, and this was one of the movies that introduced me to the world of musicals, as I was not raised in a family who particularly favored them. Artistically I really enjoy fashion design and design in general from the time period in which Hairspray is set, which makes me love the film/musical so much more.



Beauty and the Beast-

The Beauty and the Beast musical is so amazing to me because I have seen the animated film many times, and the human characters playing these fictional house objects come-to-life, do not seem any less convincing or magical to me. They do so well with costuming and getting into character, that I get just as lost in the story when there's a woman in a tea pot costume telling it to me. The contrasts in lighting for the scenes with the Beast and winter in comparison to the ballroom scene and many others are so thrilling and full of color.


After watching the videos, there were a lot that I haven't scene before, but I was most intrigued by The Producers, I thought it looked very comical and satyrical, but I also thought that it was very well shot, and very

Flip Book

The sequence of my flip book relates directly to the book that it is drawn in. The book is rooted in a Shakespearean arc, and written with a large amount of dialogue from his works. The flip book begins off with a representation of the author piecing together Shakespeare's work, by piecing together his portrait. The main drama of the book is through the characters, professional college actors, and how they ultimately transition from acting as their characters, to becoming their characters. By taking over their roles, they go too far and actual crimes are committed in true Shakespearean fashion. The crime and outcome are represented within the drawings, and ends with a transition from a theatrical mask to the reality of their actions. For me, this was a very difficult project as I am now used to other software where onion skinning is feasible. Flipping back and forth was frustrating but I am happy with the outcome.

Final Video Project

For this project I had originally intended to use animation on top of the film I took to deconstruct the perspective and size of the video. I had planned to create little creatures in scenes to distort how the audience would see the setting. Unfortunately, the outcome was not going well and didn't come across as clear as I had intended and had to be scrapped. I moved on with some of my original footage, and went out to re-shoot the rest. I held onto a smaller portion of my original idea by deconstructing the perspective of the audience, and pointing it out in the final cut as well. I cut back and forth between the made up characters formed by the geometry of the scene with the real image, in order to make it clear that these can just be figments of our imagination in an average day. Performance Art Project

For my performance piece, I decided to stand in various locations of Chicago, holding a cardboard sign that said, "Listening Ear - Tell Me Anything- No Judgement Here." I wanted to see if people would even be receptive to someone holding a cardboard sign. Heavily associated with the request of money, cardboard signs are often ignored on the streets of Chicago in hopes of avoiding confrontation with those who need help or support. Additionally, I wanted to see if those who did read my sign, would be willing to take time to talk to a stranger. Many people said nothing and at first I barely even got any glances. I said nothing to the people who passed by and kept my scarf over my mouth. Much like the performance of Marina Abramovic at Moma, I felt that without me speaking, I could connect more with everyone around me.
