Response to Stage Door Blog

I never knew that Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas  originated from a musical. That song is a staple in my house during the holidays and those songs seems so timeless. It was just interesting to discover where the song came from. I really love the post about the Tony awards, because of his statement that "this week the Standing Ovation is not for a specific musical, but for all those who are compressed in these incredible numbers that put all the honey on our lips and all the goosebumps, and make us fly to the other sidewalk of the Atlantic with the imagination." This really gives a greater appreciation for the whole business itself and the industry as art form. I think that its important to give credit, and these awards ceremonies are so beautiful and well deserved especially when a lot of these people can move a crowd to tears or transport them across the world through their art. Also, I appreciate the history and background of this post because that is always neede...

Response to Eagleman Interview

Image
Eagleman's explanation of the way our biology is trying to control our brain to make a decision paints very vivid imagery in my head. His usage of the words "rivals" and "political parties [attempting] to steer the nation," really help me to understand why I do feel like I fight with myself. I understand the stress of a secret but I never thought that a part of my brain was trying to look out for me by attempting to force me to let it go. When he says that you feel as though all of your brain is you, and in reality there are much smaller neural networks battling for control, I can begin to conceptualize why people act the way they do, and I feel as if I will be able to start recognizing more of my internal struggles, as well as when I interact with others. Additionally, it is a little creepy that my conscious mind is the last to know about what is actually going on in my brain. I think that the questions Eagleman is asking are very intuitive and important to ...

Response to Pierre Huyghe

Image
From a previous standpoint of mine, after watching this video, I would say that all of these works must have come from separate artists. Throughout my art career, my impression of artists that are successful is that they always have a style that can be easily identified. Now, I feel as if Pierre truly represents the new generation of artists in that he is not confined and he wants to take advantage of a wide range of exposures. I identify with this because I have never felt as if I have had a very distinct style, and I do a little bit of everything. I feel as if every day I am introduced to a new software or a new mode of expression, and with today's world, I don't think that anyone needs to be confined. I love that he says that the journey does not end with the exhibition. The show is not what ends the artist's path, it is actually the beginning. The concept that the reaction and the reply to the art is the continuation of the actual making of the piece is really powerfu...

Response to Marina Abramovic

Image
I really appreciate that she discusses the moment that changed her perspective on art and performance, because for me that hasn't entirely happened yet and it is really interesting to see that change happen from her point of view. Gradually as I have been getting more immersed in the world of animation I realize that I my goal has always been to give my art live and now this performance of the characters is doing just that. Similar to Marina, I have always been a traditional 2D artist and I haven't found my moment yet as she has with the airplanes, however I see that my opinion is shifting to see more of the performance side of art. Her hierarchy is very interesting because she describes her method for arranging the arts in the way that she did and my impression of it is by form. She puts music at the top because it is immaterial, and then performance, and then any other art. I understand where she is coming from in terms of how she organized it this way, but I think that any...
